2015 Doddridge County H.S. Football Preview

(Comments from Bobby Burnside and Clayton Lagasse)

For the Doddridge County football team the key word this year is "strive;" Strive to improve, strive to perfect their game and strive to make a return to the playoffs. The bulldogs reached the post-season with an 8-2 record for the first time last year since 2003, only to lose in the first round against Buffalo. While the hard work and success of 2014 does not go unmentioned, this year's team is ready to look forward and surmount last year's accomplishments.

One of coach Burnside's tasks prior to the season, is to fill many key positions, after losing several of last year's starters to graduation. Two of the biggest holes to fill are on both offense and defense, after the graduation of all-state, area first-team running back and middle linebacker Wyatt Ford.

Not only does the loss of so many key players leave holes to fill on the field, but also in leadership roles. A few players have already shown an ability to lead, but the bulldogs are still looking for more people to step up, regardless of age.

The bulldogs open up play against South Harrison, but until then, they will work mainly on the fundamentals, and according to coach Burnside, he's currently looking for the best attitudes and hardest workers to start deciding who will take the field on August 28th.
